SourceCon Spring 2015

Chris Alexander
Co-Founder & IT Recruiter
Team Builder Group

Chris Alexander is a Co-Founder and Technical Recruiter for the Team Builder Group, a woman and minority owned agency that prides itself on delivering accuracy through hands on experience in the fields they recruit for. He has been involved in technology since the age of 7, back in 1982, when computers in the home were not common.

He started his career on the art side of the industry, and in 1999 he became a web designer for a dot com located in Nashville. When the 2000 crash hit he entered the web development world as a web developer. Looking for more meaning than building websites, he joined forces with a Nashville software development firm specializing in writing software to virtually immerse language learners into new languages. For the next 9 years he focused and moved up in ranks running a local startup that encouraged, preserved, and revitalized language for North American tribes, the DOE, and the DOD.

Having his feet wet in design and software development, with many technologies under his belt, Chris decided he would have the largest impact helping others find their way in technology. Relationship building and investing in people and their stories is a passion for Chris. Recruiting found him and you can find him too, in person in Seattle, or online @TeamBuilder_llc as well as on LinkedIn.

Colleen Aylward
Devon James Associates

Following 10 years of high tech sales and management at Dun & Bradstreet Computing, Comshare, Carlyle Systems, and GEAC, Colleen Aylward swooped into the recruiting industry in 1990 on a soapbox of Change.

Within 2 years, she founded Devon James Associates, Inc., one of the country’s first RPOs (Recruitment Process Outsourcing firms) to answer the progressive demands of software vendors who needed to hire by the hundreds in the boom of the 90s.  Her firm compiled an impressive client list (Visio, Amazon, Avenue A, Cranium, InfoSpace, Brocade) and led a disruptive charge to challenge the 50-year old traditions of the Executive Search business.   Colleen and her unique approach have been mentioned in publications such as Barron’s, Forbes, Fast Company, Washington CEO, Smart Money, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and the Puget Sound Business Journal.

High energy, funny and slightly irreverent, her passion for merging technology and search created another ground-breaking methodology in 2005 – her InterviewStudio platform, which has won both the Gartner and HR Technology Conference award for “Cool New Technology” in the employment industry. For 20 years, she has been hired by client companies who need someone who has walked in their shoes and can think outside the traditional recruiting box.

Restless again in her 3rd decade in the recruiting industry, she’s baring all to help bring some order to this economic chaos – intent on divulging everything she’s learned in order to help executives discover today’s avenues to employment, through her book  “from Bedlam to Boardroom...How to get a derailed executive career back on track!” on Amazon and her program:  The Devon James Program for Executive Job Seekers.

Kara Baskett
HR Recruiter
Corporate assignment with Search Wizards

Kara began her search career in a very nontraditional way as a Recovery Specialist helping to search for individuals who were delinquent on their credit accounts.  She brought these search skills over to Recruiting about 13 years ago - first in recruiting for Master of Education and Teacher Certification Programs at North Park University in Chicago before moving to College Recruiting at Microsoft.  While at Microsoft she developed a series of Webinars, Virtual Campus Connection, to reach out to University Candidates across North America.  She also produced the New Employee Orientation video for the Intern Program.  Since Microsoft, she has been a full cycle recruiter for Mead Johnson Nutrition, Agilysys, and Cielo, where she was placed with a variety of different clients.

While Kara has been a full cycle recruiter most of her career, she has returned to her search/ 'sourcing' roots and is now in a Sourcing Consultant role through Search Wizards.  Kara's primary passion is in helping start-up organizations build great teams, while developing their Recruiting and HR infrastructure.

Kara has served on the Board of the Sourcing 7 (S7) organization for the past two years in Seattle and is a member of the Northwest Recruiters Association (NWRA).

Annie Chae
Founder & CEO
talentCI LLC

Idea girl, disruptor and strategist, Annie’s endless curiosity drives her to reimagine how competitive intelligence(CI) is an exceedingly critical part of developing positive candidate and client relationships, increasing leads and a life-long customer base in the relationship business of Talent Acquisition.

“GatheringCI is an extremely important aspect of business success by keeping you more focused, directly linking your business goals to the talent you hire/retain, collecting relevant, real-time insights while   providing you with HR analytics to reduce risk or pursue growth opportunities for high value impact.”

Annie’s business talents started at a young age and bloomed a bit more while helping her immigrant parents manage their family businesses.  After graduating from Indiana University, Annie set on a path following her parents’ vision of entrepreneurism…but not until she dipped her toes in the corporate world first. Before joining Microsoft, Annie was at Booz Allen Hamilton, implementing strategic recruitment programs known as Research, Critical Sourcing and SWAT.  She created an internal certification course called Black Belt Bootcamp for advanced talent sourcers and recruiters.  Prior to Booz Allen, she refined her research and recruiting techniques by developing the sourcing ecosystem map as the Associate Director of Talent Sourcing at the Corporate Executive Board (CLC). Earlier on in her career, Annie had served as a full life cycle recruiter for multiple teams at BearingPoint as well as a Sr. Research Associate at A.T. Kearney Executive Search.

Along her journey at Microsoft, Annie has collaborated with many wickedly talented colleagues…mixing mad science skills with operational excellence to launch Staffing Compete, a global talent research/CI program, across the company in 2012.  She brought a wealth of industry expertise to this critical and highly visible role, including staffing leadership and sourcing strategy creation, human capital research, organizational mapping, market intelligence and direct sourcing.  Upon the success of productizing HR and talent research globally at Microsoft, Annie decided it was time to leave Corporate and embark on her own story.  She founded talentCI LLC in September 2014.

Annie has found her nirvana in the heart of Seattle Washington, enjoys practicing yoga, strengthening her mind and soul at the gym (admittedly defeated by her trainer too), volunteering at YouthCare and hanging out with her husband and 170 lb bull mastiff in Belltown
